Mission and Goals
Mission
The People’s Food Policy Project is a pan-Canadian network of citizens and organizations that is creating Canada’s first food sovereignty policy.
Goals
- To increase food policy and food sovereignty literacy;
- To support a grassroots movement in developing and adopting food policies and practices based in the principles of food sovereignty;
- To refine and adapt the concepts of food sovereignty within the Canadian context;
- To build capacity, communication and collaboration among peoples, regions and sectors to facilitate ongoing policy analysis and advocacy for food sovereignty;
- To develop and advocate for a comprehensive national food policy at the federal level that is based in the principles of food sovereignty and will provide the framework and an enabling environment to foster the just and sustainable food systems that people have been building here in Canada and abroad.
How
The project will work with the food movement and others across Canada to analyse, organize, and support the development of policies for food sovereignty, instead of policies that support the globalized, industrialized food system. It will both reflect and support the work of Canadians to create a food system based on care and respect for humans and the natural world.
